At least that’s what Amber McCollom, Director of Entertainment & Trend Marketing at Nintendo of America, has us believe.
In an interview with NintendoGal.com McCollum answered the question whether the Wii U will play Gamecube games as follows:
“Actually the GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, but a number of the games that were playable on GameCube can be downloaded from WiiWare.”
Seems like a pretty clear answer, so I guess we can take this as fact; more or less. Maybe they will even let us enjoy those games in widescreen format, like they did with some Nintendo 64 games on the Wii (I’m looking at you, Majora’s Mask!). I’m all for it!
Read some more tidbits about Nintendo and the Wii U at the source (and expect to read “You know” a lot).
